Hi, I’m Connor
A skillful third-year software engineering student with a passion for cybersecurity, machine learning, and cloud computing. I love tackling complex problems and thrive both independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments. My previous internships have given me practical skills and hands-on experience, fueling my eagerness to make a meaningful impact. When I’m not coding, you’ll find me exploring new tech trends or enjoying outdoor adventures. I love bouldering, running, Formula 1, and socializing with people from across the world.
Before University
My passion for coding ignited in elementary school, where at the age of 11, I began creating simple calculator applications and websites. Becoming a software engineer has always been my long-term goal, and my deep interest in cybersecurity has been with me from the very start.
Current
For the past three years, I have been teaching myself development and software engineering practices. As I tackle more advanced projects, I am gaining experience that I can implement into my own work and, hopefully, into the everyday lives of many others.
Education and Experience
Education
As I enter my third year in Software Engineering at Ontario Tech University, I often reflect on my first day standing nervously in my dorm room, amazed at how far I’ve come. Consistently making the Dean’s List and even earning a spot on the President’s List, I’ve embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. The education and experiences here have been incredibly rewarding, and I couldn’t be happier with my journey so far.
Professional Experience
My internship at the Legislative Building was a transformative experience that taught me invaluable skills and habits. It enhanced my professionalism and prepared me for any environment. The fast-paced setting required me to learn quickly and adapt, often teaching myself on the job rather than relying on formal training.
Goals and Aspirations
Year | Goals |
---|---|
2024-2025 | Achieve my second internship to improve my resume and gain crucial on site experience for my future. |
2025-2027 | Graduate with my finished 12-20 months of co-op experince with my Bachelors of Engineering at Ontario Tech University |
2027-2029 | Gain a full-time position at any company, preferably the federal government for a cyber-security role. |
Current Projects
A description of both of my current projects can be found on the home-page of this website. They include a password management tool and an expense tracking application.
Future Projects
While I have goals for the future, I believe the best opportunities arise when we stay open to the present.
While I do believe that planning to far into the future is not a great idea in the current environment I have, I do have a few dream projects that I would love to do once I learn more. The one I have the most interest in doing would be a real-time Cyber Threat Detection Application that uses Machine learning. This would analyze network traffic and user behavior to identify anomalies and potential security breaches.
